Blogging Under Duress

Okay, here we go.

Those of you who already know me will know that I don't really do this social media malarkey. Those of you who don't know me yet will soon learn this fact for themselves. Those of you who have no intention of knowing me will probably not be reading this blog anyway, so nothing lost there.

When it comes to all things technical stuff, I appear to have fallen by the wayside. At school I was in one of the first years to have computer studies. 5 or 6 sharing one BBC Micro computer, learning how to fill the screen with your name without repeatedly typing it out............oh what happy days. Those were the days when you had to learn how a commuter worked and if necessary, how to build one. I was actually quite good with tech back then. I was one of the top in the class, quite happily breaking everyone else's security codes and subtly altering their work in some way. At home it was the same, with me linking in my TV, video and stereo without the need to read any instruction manual.

Then I left school and had no reason to use a computer for the next 10 years. During that time some bloke call Gates invented some new fancy type of window and that was it, I became a dinosaur over night and didn't even realise. It would appear that technology moved forward at a leaping pace and I will now and forever be playing catch-up, just to keep afloat.

For those of you who like their films, I'll give you Jurassic Park. You remember the scene in the helicopter as they arrive on the island and Sam Neil's character tries to put on his seatbelt but has 2 of the same ends. Everyone laughs at him until he just ties them together. That's me. I may not know the correct technical terminology for stuff but I'll figure out what needs doing to complete the goal and then do it. Me not using the correct technical terminology is actually something that bugs the hell out of Duncan. Half the time I do know what it is but refrain from using it, just to see the steam billow from his ears.

Anyhow, I digress, which I believe is how these blog type things are supposed to go. I do not like social media. I get why it has a place in modern society but I don't like it. I hate typing out what I want to say. It can quite often get misinterpreted, as there is no nuance to the words. I would much rather pick up the phone and have a chat. In the long run it's much quicker and I believe more productive. Despite this aversion to this kind of thing, I shall do my bit. I may not always share what is going on in my head (you really don't want that) but will try to keep you slightly amused if not entertained.

By the way, back to Jurassic Park. That helicopter was fully loaded passenger wise. If Sam had two of the same ends, someone else must have had two as well. Never picked that one up did they.

Catch you all again laters...............
